It was a well-fought match and a good victory for Perthshire. The team came out on top and the boys can well and truly hold their heads up high. Perthshire came off the pitch, despite the win, a bit disappointed. The coaches felt that the boys all pulled together, were extremely respectful & disciplined and played with heart throughout the game considering the difficult on field conditions. They are very proud of their team!
The hard work at training and the whole team mentality is really enjoyable to see. The boys are showing real dedication and are improving week on week, they are building on teamwork and their characters. Excellent work by all!
Our boys have won all 5 games in the Caledonian U13 conference. All of the boys should be proud of their efforts in all these games. Our points do not go towards the club points for this conference which is a shame.

Match Report – RGC Saturday 29th Feb 20 – A Difficult Game, On Many Levels
Early morning in Perthshire suggested a cold, wet and miserable day of rugby with extensive use of half-time hand warmers. But that was not to be.
It was a bright and clear morning in Aberdeen, the temperature was perfect and the pitches were holding up to the recent relentless rain.
Following a few words of remembrance and a minute’s silence for our lost friend Adam Pattinson the game kicked off.
This was the first game for Perthshire U13’s in some time and following weeks of training and cancelled games the players were keen to get going.
The team held their structure well, a lot of time has been spent recently working with the boys to improve their width, scanning and holding a defensive line. This showed early on with less “Honey Potting” around the ruck and the players getting set for the next phase. But a solid defensive line by RGC and some great first tackles meant that Perthshire struggled to break through. In contrast, although Perthshire’s defensive line was set, lack of communication allowed RGC to move the ball wide to out flank Perthshire. RGC started to tally up the try count with Perthshire’s lack of tackling practice also adding to their wows. RGC’s wall held which then lead to Perthshire moving the ball sideways with few keen to drive forward to gain ground.
However, Perthshire’s structure was strong and at no point did their energy levels or determination drop, the aggression that the players had was focused on holding RGC and did not turn inwards as has been seen in previous games.
By half time RGC were 8 tries to 0 up. Some stern but encouraging words from the coaching staff at half time re-iterated where the team needed to improve.
In the second half Perthshire had the advantage of the slope and the team came out with new vigour. In contrast to the first half the team were determined in their attack. The realisation that the gaps were there if Perthshire attacked them started to even the try count. Close support gave Perthshire options to move the ball and create opportunities. Defence improved also including a text book tackle from Josh Whyte, below the knees, bands of steel and straight to his feet to challenge for the ball.
Tries from Max G, Ramsay and Harvey gave the team hope. By the end of the game Perthshire were on the ascendance and RGC were happy to kick the ball into touch to finish the game with a final score of 9 tries 3 conversions to RGC and 6 tries 5 (21-17) conversions to Perthshire.
Man of the Match was a hard choice for the coaches as all players contributed well but was finally awarded to Max G for strong runs from Full Back cutting through RGC’s defence.
But also in consideration were
Leo – For his high work rate and tackling throughout the game
Stewart – For his work in the centre, both on and off the ball
Harvey – A good performance as scrum half and leading the team forward with his passion and aggression.
There is still plenty of work to do but the team gave a performance that they and the club should be proud of.

Sunday 28th August - Perthshire RFC v’s Highland RFC
Perthshire 53 Highland 45
After a cloudy warm-up (while the older Perthshire midis were basking in hot sunshine up in Inverness) our boys came together, ready for their first midi challenge. The sun came out for our first conference game on a full-sized pitch for the majority of the match and our boys rose to the challenge.
There was great team spirit, camaraderie, and tries. We had a full squad, the players all managed to shine and contribute in their own way to a fantastic win and great start to the season. Perthshire had 9 tries from 8 different try scorers and 3 different scoring kickers, the true meaning of a fantastic TEAM effort!!
It was great to see so many parents, grandparents, friends and siblings down at the pitch-side today watching the game and cheering the boys on. A lovely, friendly atmosphere and our supporters bench is a great addition to the sideline.
After the game both teams enjoyed refreshments together in the clubhouse. They boys and coaches all looked very smart in their club ties and are very proud to be part of Perthshire RFC family.

SUNDAY 4th SEPTEMBER – INSPIRESPORTS BOY’S U13 CALEDONIA CLUB CONFERENCE
ABERDEEN WANDERERS RFC V’S PERTHSHIRE RFC
Sunday 4th Sept 2022 - Aberdeen Wanderers RFC v’s Perthshire RFC
Perthshire fought out a very soggy, hard-earned victory at the home of Aberdeen Wanderers on Sunday 4th September 2022.
FT: Aberdeen Wanderers RFC 17 – Perthshire RFC 53
It was a bit like playing under a running tap at times and players from both sides should take great credit for the way they faced up to the conditions. The game was played in a great spirit from the start and very fairly refereed by the home referee who talked the players through what he was looking for.
Shire were excellent value for the 53-17 scoreline but it was hard fought. They did as much work in defence as in attack to keep the Wanderers out. Twice in the first half, we thought the home side were clear to score but fantastic last minute defending kept them out.
It was 19-5 at half time and shire pushed on with some very pleasing on the eye attacking phases to move further ahead. The spirit they showed today was exemplified on the last play of the day when we switched from all out defence on our own line to carry the full length of the pitch for a final converted score.
There is no need to name the try scorers, once again the team spirit and selfless hard work carried the team today. The Eagles wanted it more and got the victory they deserved.
The boys are now back to training ready for their third official match in the Caledonia Club Conference League this coming weekend. Good Luck Boys, you’ve got this!!

PERTHSHIRE RFC V’s GORDONSTOUN SCHOOL
Sunday 18th Sept 2022 - Moray/Huntly RFC V’s Perthshire RFC
FT: Moray/Huntly 5 Perthshire 74
Moray, Huntly, and Banff Rugby Clubs have merged together to form one ‘Moray/Huntly’ Rugby Club. Our game was played at the home of Moray(Elgin). The trip long up North was an exhausting one for all! The bus journey was a 6-hour round trip the boys (both teams U14s and U13s) mixed well and coped brilliantly. The pitches are hidden away behind Moray Leisure club, hidden even from google maps ;). Our hosts were very welcoming and the sun almost came out.
Before Kick Off, the ref, coaches and players all lined up together with sideline support for a minute’s silence to honour the Queen.
It was altogether an all-round, great team performance. We were strong in all areas. Our backs attacked very well with great link-up play resulting in a score of 74. Lots of set pieces and gameplay that had been practiced/drilled at training came off and were wonderful to see. Our defense was very strong, only allowing one try against us.
Given the scoreline, the referee and coaches went into a discussion about how to proceed with the referee offering two options. Rather than turn it into a development game they opted that the referee proceed with the game and be very strict on Perthshire but lenient on Moray/Huntly. This did slow down Perthshire and gave Moray more opportunities.
All of the boys put in a huge effort, not only the try scorers. It is very often the work of those making the huge tackles and those creating the opportunities that make those tries happen.
We would also like to say a big thank you to our support extraordinaire ‘Oakley’ aka OAKS who came along on the long bus journey and was chief TEE provider for the kickers and water supplier for the thirsty team.
The game ended with a Perthshire win. Both teams were very respectful of each other and mixed well during the photo shoot with some of the Elgin boys on the backs of some of the Perthshire boys!
Our hosts provided refreshments for the players and travelling adults and we headed home a happy bus!
SUNDAY 2ND OCTOBER – INSPIRESPORTS BOY’S U13 CALEDONIA CLUB CONFERENCE
PERTHSHIRE RFC V’s ELLON RFC
Sunday 2nd Oct - Perthshire RFC V’s Ellon RFC
What a glorious afternoon on the Inch with some lovely, almost warm, sunshine. Well done to all the boys today with another Perthshire win.
There were 13 tries and 5 conversions however the score difference cannot be recorded as greater than 50.
Contrary to the scoreline, this was a competitive game. Perthshire got off to a fast pace with some early tries, rocking the visitors who were still getting the long bus journey out of their legs. Perthshire built on their early lead and despite some excellent tackling from Ellon, continued to score more tries. There were some great team tries, many of which were built on aggressive defence and the platform the forwards created. Lots of positives. The hard work at training and the whole team mentality is really enjoyable to see. We had a great turnout on the sidelines this weekend, parents, siblings, grannies and grandads all cheered the boys on. The boys are showing a real hunger and keep improving. Excellent work by all!
We have a friendly on Saturday 8th against St Leonards School.
